How the Scale MIDI Device can inspire melodies in Ableton Live
Scale does more than help you avoid the wrong notes.
Ableton Live Scale MIDI Device Hero
If you’ve ever felt slightly daunted by all the different types of keys and scales, then Ableton Live has a way for you to put all of that out of your mind and keep making great music.
The Scale MIDI Device lets you nudge incoming or recorded MIDI on to new pitches. So, even if you don’t know your Dorian from your Mixolydian mode, you can still make intriguing new melodies that fit with your existing tracks. It’s also a great way to make sure you never hit a wrong note.
In this tutorial, our Logic expert Liam O’Mullane shows you ways to explore new melodic avenues with Ableton Live’s Scale MIDI Device, and how you can use multiple instances for different scales up and down the keyboard.
