UA Luna v1.1 adds over 100 user-requested features
MIDI drag-and-drop, versions, filter by plug-ins you own, and more added.
Universal Audio Luna Version 1.1
After six months in the wild, Universal Audio’s Luna is getting a significant update. Luna v1.1 adds over 100 new features driven by user feedback, including Session Versions, Track Groups and new MIDI features.
Back in April, as the Coronavirus pandemic was taking hold, the company gave its hardware users early access to a free new DAW, Luna. With its latency-free recording features and high-quality, analogue-style workflow, it had a lot of promise. However, being a version-one product in such a mature market, Luna was always going to be a work in progress.
Now, UA has addressed many of the biggest version-one gripes. The biggest is Session Versions. You can now save different versions of the same project without having to re-save all your audio over and over. Basic, but utterly essential.
Another critical feature is the ability to view only the UAD plug-ins you own. Bizarrely, version one presented all UAD plug-ins in a flat, searchable list, regardless of whether you owned them. The My Universal Audio folder fixes that.
New mixing features include Track Groups, for quick processing of multiple channels; plus automation for Luna Extensions, the company’s native plug-in format including the faithful Minimoog emulation.
On the editing front, there’s a new Reverse Audio function and MIDI drag-and-drop, and to help make Luna the true centre of your studio, MIDI Clock out has been added so you can connect to external sequencers and modular synths.
So, if you own Universal Audio hardware, and those limitations were putting you off, it might be time to give Luna another try.
Luna v1.1 is a free download for Thunderbolt-equipped Apollo users on Mac. More info at uaudio.com.
