Pro Tools users can now use Reason Rack as a plug-in
As of 5 May, AAX support comes for Reason 11’s most talked-about feature.
Along with the announcement of Reason 11 came the unveiling of Reason Rack, which allowed users to access Reason instruments and effects in another DAW without the use of ReWire. Previously, this was compatible with DAWs supporting AU and VST plug-ins, which left Pro Tools users out of the mix. That’s all now set to change, with Reason Rack AAX launching today.
Mattias Häggström Gerdt, Reason Product Manager says: “With the addition of AAX support, more music makers than ever before can add Reason’s renowned rack of instruments and effects to their beatmaking, sound design, and creative flow in their digital audio workstation. And as in the past, Reason also functions as a standalone digital audio workstation for those who prefer that option”.
Reason Rack’s AAX compatibility comes as a free update for current owners of Reason 11. Thankfully, it’s not too costly to get a copy of Reason; starting at £69, the essentials package gives you access to Reason Rack and includes 11 instruments, 11 effects, three players and eight utilities for a combined 33 devices.
In our review of Reason 11, we said “If you are a Reason user, then you’ll not need me to say that this is a great upgrade – the chances are you’ve already done it! Those upgrade prices from previous version (prior to 10) aren’t the cheapest, it has to be said, but all in all, Reason 11 is a must for all users.
If you are a non-Reason DAW user, then things have suddenly got very interesting indeed. You can now partake in the Reason Rack that others have been banging on about for years and run it within your own DAW environment. You get to enjoy the instruments and effects, but play with them your way and within your DAW environment. It’s the best of both worlds and R11 appeals to both camps.”
