The second generation of Amazon’s Echo Buds are arriving on 13 May, with an affordable pre-order price of $100.

The updated Echo Buds feature active noise cancellation by Bose, improved comfort and a battery that promises up to 5 hours of playback per charge, according to the brand.

Each pair comes with three sizes of wingtips and ear tips for a customised fit. Compared to the gen-one Echo Buds, these are 21 per cent smaller and are vented to reduce in-ear pressure. Build material is also s§weat-resistant, making them practical for use during exercise.

The regular version of the buds will be available at $120. There will also be a wireless charging version, which extends battery life to 15 hours, available for $140. Amazon says a quick 15-minute charge – via USB-C or charging case – will provide up to two hours of playback.

The Echo Buds are also compatible with the Alexa app to stream music, podcasts and audiobooks via voice control. They’ll come in two colours: Black or Glacier White.

According to Cnet, the new buds will also pack new 5.7mm drivers and a Realtek chipset with Bluetooth 5.0. This pairing purportedly helps improve bass definition and provide brighter trebles.

Amazon’s new Echo Buds are very competitively priced – Apple is offering its AirPod Pros for $249, while Google’s Pixel Buds are being sold for $179 a pair.
