Learn how to create a bassline with irresistible groove in Cubase using your mouse
Slapping the bass, or mouse, in the DAW can get you some interesting results.
When you imagine someone laying down a bassline, you probably don’t see them at a computer screen clicking on a mouse. But by drawing notes into Cubase’s MIDI editor, we can instantly manipulate the groove and the pattern, experimenting with the bass part in a way that’s unachievable with a real bass guitar.
In this Cubase Tutorial, MusicTech Expert Bruce Aisher shows you how you can make a bassline using just the mouse and MIDI tools. Bruce explains why adding notes in this way can be beneficial to your workflow, and demonstrates how various tools such as quantize, swing, and copy and paste can be invaluable in creating an irresistible groove. You’ll be dancing in your studio in no time.
We’re starting off with the basics and gradually move into more advanced and creative techniques, as in our Logic Tips and Ableton Live Tutorials series. Subscribe to our newsletter and YouTube Channel for weekly updates on new videos and content.
