Propellerhead spin-off, Allihoopa, to shutter in January 2019

A year after leaving the Propellerhead family, the collaborative music-making app is no more.

Allihoopa, a free online music-making app and social network, is ceasing operations. The service and its associated products will completely shut down on 17 January 2019.

According to a statement issued by the Stockholm-based company, the Allihoopa website and apps will be taken down, and all data – including music files and user accounts – will be deleted. Users are urged to download their tracks using Allihoopa’s Mixtape feature and connect with collaborators before the service goes offline.

“It deeply saddens us to see this song come to an end,” the company said. “Unfortunately, we can no longer afford to keep Allihoopa running.”

Two of Allihoopa’s iOS apps, Take and Figure, may get a second lease of life under new owners, but “at this point they have no home”, said the company. “If we are unable to find a new owner for them, they will be removed from the App Store.” Take is a vocal recording app, while Figure lets you sequence beats on the go.

Allihoopa began in 2016 as a sharing service within Propellerhead. It established itself as a standalone company only a year later, aiming to build a global collaborative music-making network and link to other music-making apps such as Korg’s Gadget and Yamaha’s TNR-i and TNR-e.

Relative to its peers, Allihoopa was small and still in its early stages, but as of 12 December, it claimed to host 1.7 million tracks from 240 countries/territories worldwide.

“We built Allihoopa with the vision to bring everyone doing music together and in that aim we’ve greatly succeeded,” the company said. “We’ve been honoured to serve you and had great fun developing Allihoopa at the same time. We will continue making music and hope you do, too.”
