Tracktion Corporation has released the newest version of its DAW, Waveform Pro 12, bringing huge refinements in what the brand is touting as the “broadest update in ten years.”

Making the DAW more accessible than ever before, Tracktion has placed emphasis on streamlining Waveform Pro’s workflow and user interfaces. The brand says this builds a foundation for more additions in the coming years.

Improvements to the DAW have been made across the board. There’s a new Smart Browser, more plug-ins and effects, a reworked audio engine to boost CPU performance, enhanced MIDI features, improved hardware controller support and more.

The UI now sports a customisable colour editor with new light and dark modes, making it a little easier on the eyes in different environments. Additionally, the Actions and Properties panels have been combined to provide more screen space, while a dedicated master track is now available for both the Arrange and Mix windows.

Waveform 12 includes a brand new BASSOSC instrument, fifteen refreshed audio effects, six Utility Plugins and a low latency Dual Guitar IR, which can be used to accurately simulate guitar and bass amplifier cabinets to aid live playing, tracking and mixing.

Additionally, a new element, the Drum Grid Mode, offers a drum centric alternative to the Piano Roll, while deep randomisation options can humanise velocity, pitch, note start and note length. MIDI Fold options have also been added to make editing “easier than ever before,” Tracktion says.

The last big update from Tracktion was way back in 2021, when it updated its free DAW, Waveform Free. It promoted similar workflow improvements by introducing the Welcome Screen which offered up project templates, training materials, new product news, and a swift set-up of audio devices.

Waveform Pro 12 is now available for PC, Mac, Linux (and even Raspberry Pi) and costs $149. A 90-day free trial is also available.
