After five years of development, Terry Audio presents CEQ at AES New York 2019. The dual passive, six-band EQ is designed for mixing and mastering, and was built by Marshall Terry, of Terry Audio, as a solution to his desire of combining different features of his favourite EQs.
CEQ features treble boost, treble cut, mid boost, mid cut, bass boost and bass cut, with adjustable fine step parameters. It has Pultec passive resonant shelves, with the low end being “essentially the Pultec low boost and low cut controls”, Terry tells us. The EQ also sports a Neumann PVE circuit for the mid range. With this, CEQ offers a tight, punchy low end and clarity in the mid range. The treble boost has a nifty function that can change it from a bell (inductor) or shelf (no inductor), and the Q control works in both the bell and shelf.
All the inductors are custom wound, and are exclusive to the CEQ. It has fully discrete, through-hole components for all amplifiers, and offers a true hardwire bypass switch. The amplifier was designed in house, with input from other engineers to choose a “mostly simpler, more elegant amp designed for some desired colour” according to Terry audio.
Terry Audio CEQ is available for $4600, with a non-stepped version available for $3200. The fully stepped models are built to spec with a choice of carbon or metal film for all controls.
