Instantly apply tape stop effects in your DAW With Yum Audio’s LoFi Tapestop
Dust, Flux, Muffle and Shape give you more control over the nostalgic effect
Yum Audio has released LoFi Tapestop as part of its LoFi series of effects. The plug-in allows you to bring your music to a slow halt with a pitch drop, just as if you were hitting the stop button on a tape machine.
LoFi Tapestop is quite straightforward. The stop button is how you deploy the effect, with a time knob just below to dictate how long the stop lasts. Just next to it is the play button, which lets you start up the track after it’s been stopped, and also has a time knob. You can adjust the time either by milliseconds – up to 9999ms – or in beats, which is tempo-synced to your DAW.
You can make the effect more gritty and lo-fi using Flux, Muffle and Dust. The Flux slider offers control over pitch warble and tape machine errors, with plenty of analogue modelled imperfections when set to 100 per cent. The dust slider adds noise and fuzz to the start-ups and slow-down for seriously lo-fi textures, while Muffle acts as a low-pass filter for shaping the tone of the effect. You can toggle Shape to create linear or curved stops and starts.
LoFi Tapestop is part of Yum Audio’s LoFi Bundle, which also includes Playtime and Pitch Dropout.
Yum Audio’s LoFi Tapestop is available now for macOS and Windows in AU, VST3 and AAX formats at a price of £69, with a free 14-day trial. The plug-in is included in the Yum Audio LoFi Bundle, which you can grab now for £129.
