Sample Science releases VHS Waves, a software synth driven by the nostalgia of old VHS players.

VHS Waves gives you 30 synth sounds that were conjured by recording period-correct hardware with VHS tapes to give you what the makers call, “the authentic degraded sound of decaying tapes.”

Controls include a multi-LFO – which features depth and rate controls – and low- and high- pass filters to tune your synthesizer sound. VHS Waves also comes equipped with a multi-voice mode for chord playing, and a glide mode for melodies. In addition, it also features amplitude range controls that let you adjust ADSR, and a virtual preamp for introducing some extra saturation to your output signal.

This release follows Sample Science’s recent plug-in, 80s TV Drums, which reproduces the sounds of the drum machines and percussion found in television sitcoms of the era. Using the two in combination could lead to some interesting synthwave, vaporwave and city pop sounds.

VHS Waves comes in VST, VST3 and AU formats for both Windows and macOS.
