Rhodes MK8 price revealed as pre-orders open: fully customisable and barely affordable
The iconic keyboard returns, but it won’t be for everyone
The long-awaited launch of Rhodes Music Group’s MK8 keyboard has finally arrived, offering newsletter subscribers VIP access to the brand’s website. Subscribers can now customise and pre-order their new lavish MK8 – but keep in mind, this is only an instrument for serious Rhodes fans.
Only 500 units of the extravagant keyboard will be available in the next year, and the brand says that “true perfection takes time”. Therefore, the first shipment of preamp-only MK8 models will take place in Q1 2022, and the MK8s with optional effects will ship in Q2 2022. The brand reassures that you will be kept in the loop of every stage throughout your piano’s assembly.
The real kicker, though, is surely the price. Rhodes’ successor the 2007 MK7 keyboard starts at an eye-watering price of £6,795. This is before you’ve applied any optional customisation, such as a £400 Smoked Transparent hood, the walnut shell, the stand, and the £750 effects section. That’ll be £9,115, please, plus VAT – for a total of £10,938. Check out the juiced-up MK8 below.
Of course, Rhodes isn’t embarking on a mission to create the one-stop solution for all Rhodes keyboard fans. This is all part of its mission statement to create the “best electric piano imaginable,” as desired by original founder Harold Rhodes.
You can customise your Rhodes MK8 with a range of hood colours, from hot pink to sparkling gold, and with an effects section, walnut bottom shell, black or silver stands, and more.
Until 1 November, only Rhodes newsletter subscribers can access the MK8 building page using the link in an email they have received. The site will open to the public on 1 December 2021 and fulfil further orders.
