Moog has revived the Werkstatt-01, an analogue synthesizer available for just $199. The catch: it’s a DIY project that you’ll have (or get) to put together yourself.
It’s a fairly simple kit to put together however, and according to Moog, you won’t need any prior experience with electronics.
When it’s put together, the Werkstatt-01 is a simple-to-operate device with onboard patching talents to boot. The device is 100 per cent analogue; there’s a full-range oscillator with selectable waveforms; an LFO circuit; a two-stage envelope generator, plus the iconic Moog ladder filter circuit as well.
With an included CV expander, the Werkstatt-01 can play well with modular. It adds 12 input and output patch points that can be connected to other synths, Eurorack, drum machines and more. For an example of this in action, check out the video below.
The Werkstatt-01 and its CV expander are available for $199 as a bundle. The device initially carried a price tag of $379 when it was first unveiled at Moogfest 2014.
Meanwhile Moog commemorated the 100th anniversary of the theremin last week, launching the Claravox Centennial, a modern take on the instrument.
