New Zealand’s Goldbaby has doubled down on its love for vintage music gear with KazioTron Keys, a lo-fi sample pack that promises all the warmth and nostalgic tape goodness of the 1980s and beyond.

“Think of KazioTron Keys as a cassette Mellotron with vintage 80s home keyboard tapes,” the company says. KazioTron Keys is capable of everything from vintage Japanese video game-style tunes to lo-fi old school hip-hop vibes and retro-futurist sci-fi soundscapes.

A time-tested supplier of quality samples, both free and paid, Goldbaby has a passion, in its own words, for “vintage drum machines, synthesizers, samplers, vinyl, tape, and music technology.” Its fans include Roni Size, Jamie Lidell and Chris Clark, to name a few.

Tracked through 1073 and 501 preamps, along with a valve mixer, KazioTron Keys makes use of the Casio VL1, SK1, MT70, MT18, CT201, CT301, as well as what the company describes as “a sneaky little Yamaha PS3 bass sound.” The pack also includes non-cassette versions of each instrument, “if you want pure vintage home keyboard sounds.”

Goldbaby has made extensive use of multiple cassette decks and cassette types (along with “the odd modulation pedal for a little extra mojo”) to create KasioTron Keys’ generous 1.7GB worth of 24 bit WAV samples. The pack offers an impressive 150 patches for Kontakt (5.8.1 or higher), Logic Pro’s EXS-24 or Sampler, Ableton (10.1.42 or higher) and TAL-Sampler (2.5.4 or higher).

Kaziotron Keys is available now at $29. Learn more at goldbaby.co.nz.
