BPB Dirty Filter

Who doesn’t love a free saturation plug-in? This one comes courtesy of BPB and is aptly named Dirty Filter.

Sporting a simplistic user interface, Dirty Filter comprises two resonant filters, high and low-pass, and emulated analogue tube circuitry. Both filters range between 20Hz and 20kHz with a selectable filter slope of 12, 24, 36 or 48dB/octave. A mix parameter on the left of the plug-in defines how much the input signal is affected by Dirty Filter, while the volume on the right adjusts the output level.

The drive amount sits at the top of the interface. Keep this set to zero to make use of only the filters, which can be useful for some quick EQ on your audio. Crank up the drive and instantly hear your sounds get gritty and dirty. For extreme tube-style saturation, boost it all the way up to 100 and get creative with your results.

As you experiment with the resonant filters and drive, you’ll quickly see how this freebie can be used to push sounds into new sonic territories. “Think of it as a versatile distortion pedal”. BPB says, “with a wide range of tones. Pick any frequency range and add any amount of distortion to it, from subtle tube saturation to earth-shattering audio destruction”.

Dirty Filter is available as a VST2, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in for both Windows and macOS. Check out in action and download it below.
