In light of current health climates due to COVID-19, Women’s Audio Mission (WAM) has announced that it will be hosting this year’s annual WAMcon recording arts conference in an online setting.

WAMCon 2020 takes place on Friday, 24 July from 5p.m to 7p.m PDT [8p.m to 10p.m EDT] and Saturday, 25 July from 11a.m to 3:30p.m PDT [2p.m to 6:30p.m EDT].

Just like in-person editions, the virtual edition of WAMcon will once again feature talks, workshops and live demos presented by a host of respected audio professionals.

The conference will open with a keynote talk, called Engineering Prince – where engineers Lisa Chamblee, Sylvia Massy, Peggy McCreary, and Susan Rogers will discuss their roles in shaping the iconic Prince’s records over the years – with moderation from Leslie Ann Jones.

Other workshops held across the two-day virtual conference will be presented by the likes of mixing engineer Marcella Araica (Beyoncé, Madonna) and FOH engineer Amanda Davis (Chloe x Halle, Tegan and Sara) with more guests yet to be announced.

WAM is a non-profit organisation in support of the advancement of both women and gender non-conforming (GNC) individuals in the field of music production and the recording arts.

Up until 2020, each annual WAMCon had been hosted in a different city of the United States. Speaking about this year’s virtual edition in a statement, WAM executive director Terri Winston said: “Given the challenges of the current environment, we worked hard to ensure we were able to deliver the same stellar, immersive training experiences with this year’s online event.”

“We are thrilled to be able to celebrate and learn from the hands-down best music industry professionals in the business to inspire the next generation of music producers and audio professionals.”

Tickets to WAMCon 2020 are priced at $40 to the public, $20 for WAM members and $20 for students.
