Cyanite GUI

German tech company, Cyanite, has developed an AI system of the same name to analyse the mood and genre of music. This could be music that’s available on Spotify or your own music that you choose to upload. Cyanite creates a visual pattern of emotions within songs almost immediately, and can recommend similar-sounding songs based on their emotional profile, or provide recommendations based on video and mood.

The service is aimed at a variety of people in the music production and publishing sector, as well as the average consumer looking for new music. Cyanite’s goal is to provide the demand of 40,000 daily new songs searchable and to provide professionals with the music they need. Cyanite says “the currently available meta-data no longer meets the demand of the market”, therefore the company has created their own solution. The system can tag entire catalogues by detecting sonic similarities, which saves a tremendous amount of time in comparison to manually tagging each track.

“Cyanite web app is aimed at different professionals from the music and creative industries. We decided to make it available as a Freemium/Premium model to invite all different kinds of people to use and ‘touch’ our AI” says Jakob Höflich, Co-Founder of Cyanite. “We have producers, musicians, artist managers, playlist curators, people from sound branding and many more on our platform. We get lots of feedback on how they use it – one artist manager, for example, uses our emotional analysis when he’s pitching to playlists. And that’s exactly the idea behind the freemium version: to invite people in and get to know of use cases we didn’t think of”.

This cat’s got groove…

Data for Cyanite is collected through the company’s social media app, Groovecat, launched in 2018. This app allows users to share ‘music moments’, which can be a short video with a desired song attached to capture the full ‘mood’ of the scene. Cyanite PLAY was born off the back of the collected data, which recommends music based on a short video and mood. It negates the need for searching for keywords to find the perfect song – the AI does the abstraction for you.

Next up for Cyanite is a project that will match artists with A&R companies and playlist curators. The AI will create relevance between gatekeepers and artists to provide people
with the music they’re looking for.
