Audible Genius develops Building Blocks to teach beatmaking and composition
Building Blocks uses a Rosetta Stone-style approach to break down the basics of beats and note patterns

Five years after creating the fantastic Syntorial, Audible Genius introduce the next edition of its music production course. Building Blocks uses an interface reminiscent of MIDI piano rolls in DAWs to teach you how to create drum patterns, basslines and chord progressions by ear.
The lessons are split up into different exercises, imploring you to recreate patterns by ear, inputting the notes into a sequencer. In between exercises, you are given the freedom to create your own patterns, allowing you to put what you’ve learned into practice. Altogether, Building Blocks offers 94 interactive lessons, with immediate feedback and a video demonstration before every lesson.
Building Blocks runs in Chrome and Opera, for Mac and PC, so there’s no need for downloads. Currently, it’s available via subscription for $14.99USD per month. Audible Genius aims to release two more Building Blocks courses in the future. You can try out the first four lessons for free on the site.
