Akai’s ultra-slim next-gen MPC Studio offers deep control of MPC2 software
Featuring an assignable Touch Strip and 16 pressure- and velocity-sensitive pads with aftertouch
Akai is expanding its coveted MPC series with the next-generation MPC Studio music production system. The compact controller works in tandem with Akai’s MPC2 software for macOS and Windows.
MPC Studio maintains the iconic 16-pad workflow that the sampler series is renowned for. Each pad is RGB-backlit, is pressure- and velocity-sensitive, and is capable of aftertouch. These 16 full-size pads allow you to trigger and record patterns, notes, chords, and sounds, with a visual display showing velocity and pad groupings.
Akai has included a Touch Strip on the MPC Studio, which it says can “elevate any performance with invigorating expression”. Producers can use the Touch Strip to add articulations to virtual stringed instruments, apply modulation or pitch bend to a synth part, control Note Repeat for drum rolls and more. The Touch Strip can be assigned to various parameters in the MPC2 software for a more hands-on workflow.
A full-colour LCD display provides visual feedback for track names, plug-in presets, browse categories, parameter values, and sample cropping points. Akai says this display will help you keep your eyes on the controller rather than on your laptop, with dedicated MPC transport controls and Locate buttons for precise location spotting.
MPC2 is Akai’s DAW for macOS and PC, and is the perfect companion for MPC Studio. Together, the tools offer MPC workflows and functions such as precise audio sampling, MPC groove, swing and quantize, and comprehensive MIDI sequencing and arranging. MPC2 can also run as a plug-in in any DAW.
The software comes with eight plug-in instruments that range from emulations of classic hardware to original synth engines. In addition, an effects suite features a wealth of plug-ins to shape vocals and instruments to help producers record, edit and mix the perfect take.
