Active noise-cancelling is a fairly common feature in most earbuds today, but on the QuietOn 3, it’s the star of the show: these earbuds are designed to help you sleep better.
Developed in Finland, the buds themselves are small, ergonomic and, most importantly for many, have a non-protruding design that lets side sleepers rest in comfort.
The QuietOn 3 earbuds feature “finely tuned” active noise-cancelling that hone in on low-frequency content such as traffic noises, snoring and other culprits of sleep disruption.
In theory, these should work well in the daytime, too, particularly during this era when a work-from-home arrangement has become the norm in many places.
The audio principle that drives the QuietOn 3 is similar to the way other brands design their active noise-cancelling features: phase inversion. Onboard microphones ‘listen’ to environmental sound and playback an inverted wave to cancel out that frequency.
QuietOn 3 earbuds start up the moment they’re taken out of their charging case, and they have a battery life of about 28 hours per charge. Each pair also comes with four sets of ear tips in different sizes.
