Point Blank has recruited Danish DJ/producer Faustix for a tutorial on creating punchy Psytrance drops. With a repertoire spanning label releases on Mad Decent and Monstercat as well as collaborations with Diplo and Major Lazer, Faustix – aka Morten Brangstrup Olsen Hansen – brings a lot of experience to the table.

In the video, Faustix breaks down a festival favourite of his, The Brakeoff. With the goal of making punchy, atmospheric Psytrance, he first chops a vocal sample into different parts, before replicating it at a lower pitch to give him two vocal lines.

Next, he goes in-depth on an important constituent of Psytrance, the kick, demonstrating how this element can be made punchier and louder via layering. He rounds off the session by giving tips on how to create an epic drop.
