Many of Ableton Live‘s Devices come with a plethora of parameters. This is an incredibly positive thing, giving us plenty of options to manipulate in search for the perfect sound. When stacking multiple Devices into an Instrument, MIDI or Drum Rack, though, things can quickly get confusing. Macros are essential for organising complicated Racks, and using Macro Variations is a useful way to quickly move between different configurations of your sounds.

In this Ableton Live tutorial, we get meticulous with Live’s Macros and Macro Variations. You’ll learn what a Macro Variation is and how it can be used to provide quick access to different configurations of a Live Rack. You’ll also find out how to keymap Variations, update the state of a Macro and how to randomise a Macro. Liam shows you how to capture these Variations into your project so you never miss a moment of magic.
