Friend Within

British producer Friend Within joins Chris Barker and Will Betts on the 41st episode MusicTech’s My Forever Studio podcast, brought to you in partnership with EVO by Audient.

In 2013, Lee Mortimer exploded onto the scene as Friend Within, instantly tearing up dancefloors with his seminal house track, The Renegade. He quickly went on to become a Toolroom Records stalwart, A-Trak and Disclosure collaborator and has now started a second musical project. As 2phargon, Lee creates deep, experimental dance grooves with analogue and digital synth and grooveboxes, fitting effortlessly into the Dirtybird catalogue.

In this episode, find out how a rudimentary DAW function led to his first label signing, which software has upped his mixing game and what his tricks are for overcoming a lack of musical theory knowledge.
