Active noise cancelling headphones can be good for pinpoint mixing, the theory being that the less that comes in from the outside world, the more you will hear in your mix/inside world. They used to cost a fortune, but have been coming down in price and now you can pick up some with decent specs and with the advantage of wireless Bluetooth operation.

The Mixcder E7’s weigh in at just £41.99 (street, retail is supposed to be £129.99) and for that these really are a great buy. Sound quality is decent and the up to 10m Bluetooth range could be good for a spot of mobile studio monitoring.

They are not totally accurate with a bit of an enhanced bass, but for mobile monitoring they are a decent option, especially with the active noise cancelling which does offer some isolation. It’s not up there with the Bose noise cancelling that we’re used to, but then neither is the price.

So if you can get them for the £41.99 we’ve quoted, these add up to being a comfortable second pair of phones that you’ll use on the road and then return to your main studio phones for precision mixing.
