Zero-G’s Lounge Factory – Downbeat Business Volume 1 is dedicated to smooth downbeat, lounge and nu-jazz sounds. It’s a hefty download at more than 5GB but it rewards users with a wealth of inventively crunchy beats, deep and jazzy keys and synths, sub-heavy basses, and smokey brass and string lines. Some of the drum beats sound too lo-fi and noisy for our liking but thankfully, Zero-G has included separate parts so that you can mix the noise to taste. The vintage Rhodes and shimmering synth riffs, which come in dry and processed versions, are a real standout, as are the folders of one-shots. Although it’s fixed at 100bpm, this is a superb collection that could benefit a wide range of deep-sounding genres, from trip-hop to jazzy house.
