Review: ModeAudio Loose Breaks
Get off the grid and add a touch of humanity to your beats with ModeAudio’s latest.
Sometimes it pays to ditch the quantise and just go with the flow. This pack from ModeAudio embraces the looser vibe of live drum performance, with more than 100 beats in both hip-hop and broken house and techno styles. Each beat is packed with detail and character, and is presented with a kick and top loop file. However, given the complex layered nature of the patterns, it would perhaps be more useful and flexible to have at least three layers per beat.
Still, if you really wanted to deconstruct the loops, you could use the more than 150 superb drum and percussion one-shots alongside the 100 or so MIDI files. Some of the hits have a little audio information before the transient, so you may need to trim them if you’re creating tighter beats. Overall, there’s a great deal of variety and inventive production to explore here.
- Loose hip-hop and dancefloor beats
- 520MB of 24-bit audio
- 202 acidised WAV and Rex2 loops
- 153 MIDI files, 153 one-shots
