Review: FaderPro Synth & Sound Design w/ D.Ramirez
A large and inspiring course for anyone wanting to develop their synth skills, with approachable techniques for dissecting sound design.
This extensive six-and-a-half-hour course from FaderPro finds dance-music veteran D.Ramirez working through the topic of synthesis across 28 chapters. The opening 90 minutes gives a solid and thorough walkthrough of oscillators, filters, modulation types and also a basic intro to FM, before moving on to 12 sound-design chapters that use Logic’s Retro Synth, Ableton’s Analog and Operator, u-he’s RePro and LennarDigital’s Sylenth. Ramirez has a great way of dissecting sounds and then relating it to the different parameters, which helps to develop an understanding of how to build patches.
What really shines through is Ramirez’s passion for synthesizers and sound design, and by the time you’ve watched the final chapters that concentrate on a range of hardware instruments from DSI, Korg, Moog and Roland, you’re left enthused and wanting to fire up your nearest synth. Although it’s not a cheap course, this kind of inspiration is worth a lot.
