Zoom has unveiled their recording solution for podcasters with the Livetrak L-8. It’s a digital mixer and recorder, featuring six microphone inputs and four headphone outputs, which could suffice for most podcasting formats and panel interviews. Also onboard is an effects unit and sound pad, which can be loaded with custom sounds.

The six sound pads trigger a selected sound, which is included to cater for playing ads, intro music, background music, or just some fun sound effects. The sound pad can hold up to 13 sounds to select from. A three-band EQ, pan, low cut and effects send, with eight effects including reverbs, delays and chorus, with two-parameter adjustments provided.

Livetrak L-8’s channels are recorded straight to SD-Card, with storage capabilities up to 512GB, or straight to a computer with a USB connection. The recording will contain an audio file for each channel, plus a master track, allowing for flexible editing.

For podcasts that have viewers contributing via phone, a mix-minus button will eliminate delays and echoes. The phone audio is sent to the recorder through a TRS cable, which is included with the recorder.

The Livetrak L-8 can be powered with AA batteries, mains or a USB power bank.

Livetrak L-8 is available from November 2019 at $399. Find out more at zoom.co.jp
