Waves Cosmos

Plug-in giant Waves has made the Cosmos Sample Finder free to download. The standalone /uncategorised/waves-cosmos-fre…ed-sample-finder/application is designed to seek out all of the samples across a hard drive and collate them in one interface.

Waves claims Cosmos can make quick work of analysing, auto-tagging and sorting your entire collection of samples under 45 seconds into one unified database for easy access – something it totes as powered by the mysteriously named Waves Neural Networks technology. Here, sounds can be viewed by waveform, auditioned and compared side by side before being dragged and dropped into your sampler or DAW.

Furthermore – and this is impressive – the application will work regardless of a sound’s location or file name. In its press release for Cosmos, Waves says: “Need to find a saturated kick? Just type ‘saturated’ and ‘kick’ in Cosmos and all your saturated kicks will show up, no matter what the files are actually named. Need to find a bright, reverb-y drum loop in 120 BPM? Or a saturated synth sample in F#-minor with a cinematic feel? Just choose the appropriate tags, and Cosmos will deliver the samples you’re after, instantly.”

The application also comes pre-loaded with over 2,500 one-shots and loops, meaning that if users didn’t have reams of disparate samples to sort through before getting Cosmos, they certainly will now.

The giveaway comes alongside the announcement of a brand new sampler plug-in, the CR8 Creative Sampler, designed to quickly and easily make creative instruments out of existing sounds with a wide variety of stretching, shifting and stacking capabilities.

Note that Cosmos is not available as a plug-in for your DAW and is completely standalone.
