Tribe XR Beatport Link

Virtual reality is starting to open up some seriously interesting opportunities for the music technology industry. We’ve seen VR concerts, modular synthesis in VR and a few DJ applications for the new world. Tribe XR, a VR DJ application, has teamed up with Beatport to integrate LINK and give goggle-wearing disc jockeys access to the entire Beatport catalogue during a set.

Practically anyone with a VR setup can head into the Tribe XR software to stream and mix electronic music. Users can browse the Beatport collection, create and manage playlists, and take inspiration from Beatport’s own curated playlists. This means that those who don’t have access to expensive, high-end DJ equipment can use gear such as an Oculus Quest or Oculus Rift to get hands-on with industry-standard decks. Paired with Beatport’s LINK, Tribe XR’s DJ lessons and a community of professional DJs, getting into mixing and scratching is easier than ever.

Tribe XR DJs can also stream their sets directly to platforms like Twitch, Facebook and YouTube, as well as virtual worlds like Sansar and Altspace. In light of the pandemic, we’ve seen an uptick in live streaming from performers and DJs. This development could make the concept of streaming even more exciting – particularly as Tribe and Beatport LINK DJs can perform back-to-back sets with other DJs in-game.

Tom Impallomeni, CEO and co-founder of Tribe XR, writes of the announcement: “We’re excited to launch this groundbreaking partnership between Tribe and Beatport, enabling VR DJs to mix music from Beatport’s extensive library of exclusive tracks and expertly curated playlists. We can’t wait to see the awesome sets and remote back-to-back jam sessions that result from this partnership.”

Beatport’s director of U.S. partnerships and marketing, Zach Jaffe, added, “Having spent many years in the worlds of both VR and electronic music, this integration is something that an aspiring DJ could not even dream of even a few years ago. It is the very definition of ‘the future”.

Tribe XR can be downloaded on Oculus Quest, Rift and Steam VR for a price of $30. Beatport LINK is available in three tiers, starting at $15 per month. Find out more at tribexr.com
