Test your mixing ability with Mastering The Mix’s Ultimate Producer platform
Tom Frampton introduces the first challenge, Balancing Channels.

Can you mix like a pro? Find out with Tom Frampton and Mastering The Mix’s Ultimate Producer challenge. The challenge, Balancing Channels, gets you mixing the elements of a track to create a balanced mix, giving you a score out of 100.
The interactive challenge can help train your skills as a mixer, with 10 levels of difficulty and precision. If you struggle in achieving a balanced mix, you’ll be able to listen to the Pro Mix version to compare your mix. Each time you start the challenge, the mix will be unique and it’s your job to put it right. Try it out below.
You have control over bass, drum tops, kick, music and effects, and vocals. Each can be solo’d and adjusted independently. The focus is on the volume of each fader, rather than EQ, compressing and other mixing effects.
Frampton says that “a lot of producers skip this crucial step and jump straight into EQing or other processing. This is really inefficient because you end up spending more time dialling in a crazy EQ curve when just setting the right level would have got the sound 80 to 90 per cent there.”
The free trial version will let you play to level 2 of the song //Galactic Love// as many times as you please. The full version, priced at £29, gives you access to 12 different tracks across a range of genres, with personalised feedback on each attempt.
