It’s free software galore! Staying at home appears to have never been quite as opportunistic as this. Cuckos joins the fray with free temporary licenses for its Reaper DAW. Reaper has been around for over 15 years now and is famous for its customisation capabilities. The top banner of Reaper’s site reads “If you are working remotely and/or social distancing and would like to use REAPER at home, you can download a temporary REAPER license”.
Alongside Cuckos, companies like Moog, Korg, Cherry Audio and Avid, among others, have all offered up free copies of their products to support artists who are housebound. Cuckos’ offer is valid until the end of June, and you don’t need to be a current owner of Reaper to take advantage of the free license – new users are also welcomed in this offer.
Getting set-up is relatively straightforward. Once downloading the DAW and installing it to your system, it will ask for a license code. Clicking the link on the website’s top banner will take you to a text page where the temporary license resides. Paste that into Reaper and you’re good to go.
This is a pretty decent offering for getting some musical ideas down over the next couple of months. Although valid until 1 June, Reaper’s full version is by far one of the more affordable DAWs out there, at a mere $60 for individual licenses.
