Steinberg’s Immerse gives you a personalised ambisonics experience for Cubase and Nuendo
Immerse, created in collaboration with Embody, uses AI to provide a personalised spatial audio solution.
With the help of AI, Immerse with VST AmbiDecoder takes into account the shape of your ears to create a Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF). This is essentially a personalised profile for use in ambisonics mixing and is created by scanning a photo of your right ear.
Steinberg and Embody say that an individual’s ear can be likened to a fingerprint, in that the shapes and folds of one’s ear are unique to every person. Previously, VST AmbiDecoder has been used to monitor ambisonic content using a set of generic HRTFs. A custom-made HRTF is beneficial in converting ambisonics to binaural audio, as the engineer can hear the clear spatial separation of each aural element with their own ears, rather than a generic set of ears. This results in an immersive mix with enhanced sound accuracy, sound quality and externalisation.
Steinberg has produced a walkthrough of how to get set up with Immerse with VST AmbiDecoder, which you can watch below.
Marketing manager at Steinberg, Luis Dongo, stated, “We’re excited to partner with Embody to bring personalized spatial audio to artists who use Cubase and Nuendo. Customers are already telling us that having easy, affordable access to their personalized HRTF to create Ambisonics soundscapes will significantly improve the immersive content they’re able to develop.”
“Over the past few years, it’s become easier to create immersive content thanks to tools like VST AmbiDecoder,” said Kapil Jain, co-founder and CEO of Embody. “Adding Immerse to the VST AmbiDecoder tool kit means you can create immersive content with a higher degree of confidence because using your personalized HRTF unlocks the true power of spatial audio. By mixing Ambisonics with your ears, you know your mix is right.”
Immerse with VST AmbiDecoder is exclusively available through the Steinberg Online Shop for £162 GBP, with a free trial available. Find out more at steinberg.net
