Music streaming platforms Mixcloud, SoundCloud and Bandcamp have been showing their support for artists affected by COVID-19, and Spotify is next up to help those in need. The company has set up a new initiative, Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief, which suggests to users verified organisations offering financial relief to members of the music community in need. Spotify has said it will “match dollar-for-dollar public donations, up to a total Spotify contribution of $10 million”.

The company has already contributed funds to the CDC Foundation Emergency Response fund and the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO. This was in an effort to aid these organisations to provide better help to communities in preventing, detecting and responding to COVID-19, deploy emergency staffing and deliver critical home essentials.

Within the Spotify app, there is now also a COVID-19 hub, which gives users quick access to essential news and information. The brand is also working on a new feature that will let artists fundraise directly from fans by driving them to a fundraising destination of their choice via their Spotify artist page. Spotify also collaborated with other music industry brands to launch MusiCares COVID-19 Relief fund.

Creators staying at home will receive support from SoundBetter, Spotify’s talent marketplace, as it waives its revenue share. Cloud-based audio recording platform Soundtrap is also offering extended free trials for educators.

Spotify says: “Combatting the impact of this pandemic on the music industry will take a massive global effort, and we are working quickly to assemble and optimize these new resources. We will share additional details and updates as soon as we have them. To learn more about Spotify’s broader efforts to address COVID-19, on-platform and off, please visit For the Record”.
