Soundcharts has predicted which artists will breakthrough in 2020
The analytics platform has taken data from 15 sources to predict which hip-hop, grime and R&B artists will make waves in the wake of this decade.
Soundcharts, launched in 2016, is rapidly becoming one of the world’s leading music analytics platform, offering artists, labels and management insights into actionable data. This includes realtime data from 8,800 charts and playlists, the ability to identify sources of growth by country and platform, comparison to similar artists and much more. Soundcharts has recently used its accumulated data to predict the top 20 UK emerging hip-hop, grime and R&B artists set to breakthrough in 2020. The data comes from over 2.5 million artists, over 30 million songs and more than 15 sources.
These sources include Deezer, Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube, Apple Music, SoundCloud, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter and more. Using these sources, Soundcharts recognises the surges in engagement across platforms, as opposed to monitoring the amount of streams or mentions on just one platform. This might be a much better way to gauge an artist’s prominence than going by followers or plays on just one music platform.
The list of 20 up and coming artists includes:
- Aitch
- Jay1
- DigDat
- NSG
- Russ MB
- BandoKay
- Digga D
- Ms Banks
- Poundz
- Fredo
- K Trap
- Swarmz
- Hamzaa
- M Huncho
- Sav’o
- Alicai Harley
- Deno
- Darkoo SL
- Dolapo
Aitch appears to be the artist rising the highest, with a number one in the Spotify Top 200 in September with Taste (Make it Shake). His records have been played on UK radio stations over 23,000 times, seeing over a 36,000% increase on the previous year. This month, his social channels have jumped up 20%.
David Weiszfeld, Founder & CEO of Soundcharts commented: “We’ve devised a list of up-and-coming hip-hop, grime and R&B acts we predict will break in 2020 based on billions of data we have analysed in real-time. Because of our advanced algorithms we have built, coupled with our expertise and insight, we are able to see trends which tells us a story. That story is telling us the future.”
