NAMM 2021: Richie Hawtin and PLAYdifferently release a four-track MODEL 1.4 mixer
DJs can now access the all-analogue signal path and effects in a more compact, affordable package than the six-channel original

NAMM 2021: Four years after the release of the renowned MODEL 1 DJ mixer, Richie Hawtin, Allen and Heath and PLAYdifferently announce the MODEL 1.4.
Engineered by Andy Rigby-Jones and co-designed by Richie Hawtin, MODEL 1.4 offers the same all-analogue experience as its predecessor in a compact four-channel design. The mixer features sculpting EQ, high- and low-pass contour filters with analogue overdrive across all four channels, plus a high- and low-pass filter and three-band master EQ on the master channel.
Two high-performance phono preamps are built into the mixer for high fidelity audio and two independent cue systems and a D-Sub connection for connection to audio interfaces. You won’t find any USB connectivity or other digital connectors – PLAYdfifferently is serious about keeping this all-analogue.
The Mixer Link system can facilitate the connection between multiple MODEL mixers for a scalable setup. Studio-grade TKD 60mm faders will give you control over each channel, ensuring durability and smooth sliding.
“With MODEL 1 we set out to build a new breed of DJ mixer, more akin to an instrument, with levels of control and quality that inspired creativity,” says Hawtin. “We always felt a compact version would be welcomed in home studios and perfect for streaming. At a more affordable price, but with no compromise to the purity of design and components, this is a smaller format MODEL 1 with four channels, perfect for the home, as a compact club mixer, or as a nimble tour instrument.”
Although MODEL 1.4 is more affordable than the original six-channel behemoth, the high-fidelity mixer will still set you back £1,999.
