Reason 11.2 brings new features to Reason Rack – including MIDI Out
The update also introduces a new Rack extension, Beat Map
Reason Studios has updated Reason to version 11.2, with MIDI Out and Beat Map being the major talking points.
Sending MIDI data into Reason Rack is a bit of a no-brainer; triggering the vast collection of synths on offer is appealing to any beatmaker. But with MIDI Out, creativity and sound design can be bolstered with what Reason has to offer. The new ‘Drag MIDI’ notes to tack also lets you drag MIDI data from Redrum, Dr Octo Rex and Matrix into your DAW.
Using MIDI Out, you can beef up your sounds by using Players like Scales & Chords or Dual Arpeggio to trigger complex chords to your favourite plug-ins. You can also make Reason Rack the lead instrument, sending the same MIDI data to accompanying synths, and utilising pan controls to thicken up the sound. By connecting effects like Pulsar to supporting DAW’s, namely Logic Pro X, you can modulate parameters in other plug-ins, too, opening up even more creative possibilities.
The MIDI Out Device is also updated in the Reason 11.2 standalone, replacing the External MIDI Instrument. Now, eight CV inputs with scale and offset for every MIDI Out Device are on offer, streamlining the process of controlling parameters on your external gear.
Beat Map is touted as an “algorhythmic drummer”, fluidly generating drum patterns and taking away some of the complexity of writing great beats. By using built-in algorithms an intuitive central XY pad, you can begin creating patterns in different genres and styles quickly, with unexpected results.
