Come 10 June, Propellerhead will have a new man at the helm: Niklas Agevik. The Swedish entrepreneur will take the reins from co-founder Ernst Nathorst-Böös, heralding a new dawn for the software company.

In a statement following his appointment, Agevik thanked his predecessor and outlined his goals for the brand going forward. “I see so much potential in both the company and its products. By building upon their legacy and making music making even more accessible there is a lot of room for growth. My goal is to continue building on that foundation, growing the user base of both the desktop and mobile products”, he said.

Before joining Propellerhead, Agevik spent five years at Ericsson. He was also part of numerous start-ups, and, most recently, founded Instabridge, an app which helps you to locate and connect to the nearest free WiFi.

It remains to be seen what direction Agevik steers Propellerhead and its prized Reason DAW towards. His background in mobile applications suggests that there may be more attention given to Propellerhead’s mobile platforms, including Reason Compact, Thor synth and the recently re-acquired Take and Figure apps from Allihoopa.
