Could music tech creators be looking to NFTs as a new means of releasing production tools? Principleasure of Principle Pleasure studios has compiled a one-of-a-kind sample pack comprising 5.5GB of sounds from rare, coveted synthesizers. The sample pack, titled Principleasure 1- Instrumental Audio, will go to one lucky bidder as an NFT (Non-Fungible Token).

The pack features recordings of the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5, Prophet T8, Oberheim OB-8, Roland TB-303, Roland TR-808, Yamaha CS-80, Roland Jupiter 6, Roland MKS-80, Roland Juno 60, Roland SH-101, Korg Mono/Poly and more. Principleasure’s synths have been in his collection for over 20 years, being used and maintained in that time.

All the sounds are dry, featuring no EQ, added effects or normalisation. Everything was recorded at Principle Pleasure Studios, LA, using a Prism Orpheus sound card for pristine capturing in 24-bit/44.1kHz. Each file is recorded at different keys, velocities, filter settings and tunings. You’ll be able to load each instrument into Native Instruments’ Kontakt sampler as .nki patches, though you’ll need the full version of Kontakt to do this.

Principleasure touts the sample pack as “a unique slice of electronic music history”. He adds: “This product is different and is a truly limited one-off. It is very highly curated and features a greater and much more diverse selection of recordings”. Principleasure 1 – Instrumental Audio took several weeks to make and will not be made again, according to the creator.

Principleasure, real name Sharooz Raoofi, is no newcomer to sample pack crafting. He’s the founder of Sample Magic and Audiaire, the latter of which was recently sold to Splice. This time last year, he released a free sample pack which garnered over 35,000 downloads. He also makes music under the Principleasure moniker.

Although musicians, producers and artists are flocking to NFT technology to sell rights to their music and unique experiences for fans, this is the first producer-focused NFT.

Principleasure 1 – Instrumental Audio is available for free now at principleasure.com.
