Plugin Boutique Scaler 2

Software marketplace and developer, Plugin Boutique, has announced Scaler 2, the second version of its acclaimed plug-in. Scaler 2 is designed to make “music theory and composition easy”, the brand says.

Boasting 200 new chord sets, new melodic expressions, modulation suggestions, 30 instruments and more, Scaler 2 isn’t just for newbies – its userbase includes the likes of Jean-Michel Jarre, Carl Cox, The Temper Trap and MJ Cole.

The music theory workstation gives you access to 200 phrases, performances and rhythms performed by professional musicians. It’s audio and MIDI detection will inform you what scale you’re playing in, and a Keys Lock will keep your chords in key. Scaler 2’s instruments include piano, synth, orchestral and guitar patches, but MIDI Capture gives you the option to export your performances as MIDI data to use across other instruments.

If you get the feeling your performance has become a little robotic, Plugin Boutique has included a Humanise option, which automatically adjusts variations to velocity and timing. Voice Grouping will automatically invert notes to restrict playback within certain octaves or by using open voicing. Modulation Suggestions can also be made by Scaler 2, which have been sourced both algorithmically and from professional musicians.

Edit Mode gives you control over duration, octave, inversion and more, wth lasso, drag and drop and replace functions to quickly make adjustments. The Pad View lets you construct entire arrangements, moving chords and whole progressions on a higher level.

Scaler 2 is available at Plugin Boutique with an introductory sale price of £39.95 / $49. Find out more at pluginboutique.com
