We’re all acutely aware of the impact COVID-19 has had on the careers of music tech professionals. But in Distant Dancefloors, Pioneer DJ looks to the electronic music scene as a whole to explore the economical, psychological and social impacts the pandemic has had on global club culture.

As venues, festivals and live events were forced to cancel their events overnight, thousands became uncertain of their careers. Distant Dancefloors goes back to when the virus first took hold. Sharing their reflections of the last six months, the film features commentary from international DJs such as Blond:ish, Eats Everything, Honey Dijon, Luciano and Rebuke as well as other industry professionals.

Blond:ish comments: “It is unfortunate the situation that we are in but we adapt, that’s what we do, that’s our human nature. The question is, how are we adapting as a music industry? And, how are we going to come back and solidify a new sustainable foundation as an industry and be innovative for everyone else, to be an example?”

The documentary investigates how artists have adapted to respond to the pandemic, offering their views on the future of the industry. This includes conversations on live video streaming becoming the new normal and its place in a post-COVID world; whether the pandemic can be an opportunity to change the industry for the better; how music industry workers and enthusiasts have been impacted and whether the dancefloor can exist in a time of social distancing.
