Music technology startup PEEX has joined forces with 17,000-seat Dutch music venue Ziggo Dome to offer concert-goers a live music experience unlike any other. Under the agreement, PEEX will rent out its wearable augmented audio reality device, the rX, to those attending shows at Ziggo Dome.

Augmented Audio

The rX consists of a device you wear around your neck and two connected earbuds delivering a mix from the stage. The idea is that this seamlessly blends with the ambient sound coming from the PA, so you don’t feel disconnected from the performance.

No matter the venue, providing live sound for thousands of people always means there will be compromises.

“Our vision is to repatriate to the user all of that missing information – the high-mids and the high frequencies that you’ve lost naturally in the environment,” said Graham Tull, CTO and co-founder of PEEX.

Five-channel mixer

The other major selling point is that each user gets a five-channel mix of the live sound. Once rX is paired with its companion app, five faders are presented, letting each user hear more of what they want.

Guitar enthusiasts, for example, can turn up the guitar to hear every nuance of the solos. Bass players can focus on the growl of the bass guitar part, and the lyrically minded need never miss a word.

The first PEEX-powered concerts at Ziggo Dome are on 8 and 17 June, two dates on Elton John’s current Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. The rX device can be rented out at the venue itself or reserved by pre-booking on PEEX’s website. Rental rates for the rX device are €10 per show.
