Earlier this week, Novation unveiled a new groovebox, Circuit Tracks. The brand has wasted no time in showing us what else is on the horizon with details of a new sampler, Circuit Rhythm.

Novation has taken to its website to give us a sneak peek at the new sampler, showing us the design which follows on from Circuit Tracks. Eight encoders are available to control various parameters, along with the 4×4 pad grid, transport controls and surrounding controls.

Instead of including synth, drum and MIDI tracks as found on Tracks, it seems that Rhythm will feature eight tracks dedicated to sampling. A Sample Mode button is located in the top left of the grid and a Sample Rec. It looks like the encoders are dedicated to shaping the sound of the recordings, with start, tune, length, filter, slope, distortion and more.

Novation’s teaser says you can record directly into Rhythm – two quarter-inch TRS inputs, USB-C connectivity and microSD slot gives you this freedom. Chopping up samples, creating basslines, melodies and drum patterns can be achieved quickly. “Create beats without complications”, the site reads.

Record samples directly into the machine, sculpt them to suit your style, and resample. Playback samples however you choose, whether you’re chopping straight from vinyl, making basslines and melodies, or punching in drums. Create beats without complications with Circuit Rhythm.

You’ll find no screen on this machine, although it’s likely that Components can be hooked up for a deeper dive into the functions. This might be a useful feature, particularly when defining the sample’s start and end points.

Grid FX makes Circuit Rhythm “the perfect performance tool”, Novation claims. It offers beat repeat, vinyl simulation and more.

Along with the aforementioned inputs, Rhythm also caters for MIDI-equipped hardware with MIDI In, Thru and Out connectors, plus a Sync port. An eighth-inch headphone out and quarter-inch TRS outputs will let you listen to your creations.

Information is kept to a minimum on the Novation website, but it’s been made known that it will arrive in Summer 2021.
