Sol Levante Pro Tools session

Entertainment tech giant, Netflix, has released open-source material of its original anime short Sol Levante, made in collaboration with Production I.G. The material includes the final Pro Tools mixing and mastering sessions, along with other useful assets to give you genuine insight into how the industry is creating immersive productions.

By making content readily available for public use, Netflix hopes to encourage budding creatives to learn and discover developments in the industry. With Sol Levante, Netflix and Production I.G created the first 4K HDR Atmos anime short, which is now streaming on the platform. The open-source material for the title has the widest range of downloadable assets across all of the available works.

With access to the Atmos ADM and DAMF files and the two Pro Tools sessions, you can explore how the team mixed and mastered the production. You can make changes yourself and experiment with the mix to better understand Dolby Atmos in action. As this method of sound design is still somewhat in its infancy, this resource could be a great way to get ahead of the curve.

Netflix also uploaded a behind the scenes video earlier this year, focusing on the sound design of Sol Levante. You can check it out above, and observe the range of techniques that the studio implemented to maximise the audience’s immersive experience.
