Native instruments pharlight

Following the success of Straylight, Native Instruments returns with Pharlight, a Kontakt instrument for all types of creators. Pharlight uses the human voice to create “unconventional melodic leads, pads, textures, and more”, the brand says.

Running in Kontakt 6 and the free Kontakt 6 Player, Pharlight is built around a specially-recorded sample library. Created by 15 artists and sound designers, the sample library is a result of research into how different sound interact with granular processing, producing timbres that sound convincingly human. Take a brief listen below.

The collection of 319 sound sources is comprised of vocal artists, beatboxers, choral sounds, made-up words and more, with 375 presets that give instant access to stylistically vast sounds. Beyond its complex textural capabilities, Pharlight’s power can be harnessed for use in melodic, fast-attack sounds like hooks and melodies.

Pharlight’s engine features dual grain and sample modules. The grain module is where the atmospheric, evolving sounds are generated, all while maintaining the character and timbre of samples regardless of time and pitch. This is then layered with the sample module, which has a range of parameters for detailed tweaking of the sound.

The modulation and effect section gives you the flexibility to manipulate snapshots in realtime and add the finishing touch to a preset. A nifty XY pad can take control of parameters for quick morphing and spontaneous sounds. Check out Native Instrument’s walkthrough below.

Pharlight is currently available at an introductory price of £129. Find out more at native-instruments.com
