Winter NAMM 2019 show

Although Summer NAMM was forced to keep its gates closed this year, NAMM U Virtual Summit has been able to pick up some of the slack with four days of free webinars.

The online education summit features 12 sessions that are tailored to everyone in the music industry. The sessions are categories into three ‘tracks’, in order to cover subjects that appeal to the different workers in the industry: Business, Audio and Technology. “Discover new ways to win, right from the comfort of your home or office”, NAMM says on its website.

NAMM U Virtual Summit will run from 7 July until 10 July 2020. To get involved, you’ll need a NAMM.org account, but this is free and open to everyone. Once you log in, simply register your interested in the Virtual Summit and which virtual sessions you’d like to attend. All events are scheduled in the PDT time zone.

Those of us interested in the music technology side of NAMM U may look to attend the following sessions.

  • How Disruptive Technology Will Reshape the Industry
  • Home and Project Studios: Getting Your Small Studio to Sound Like a Big One
  • Emerging Platforms for Artist Marketing and Fan Engagement
  • Live Sound 2.0 in the Time of COVID-19
  • Session Work Reimagined
  • The Future of Mobile Music Production and Collaboration
  • Creating a Hit Record in Challenging Times

There will also be a ‘Pensado’s Place Virtual Hang’ with Dave Pensado and Herb Trawick in the evening of 9 July to kick back and chill out with the music and recording industry legends.

It remains unclear whether Winter NAMM 2021 is set to go ahead, but the organisation is currently adamant that it will open up for the industry on 21 January 2021.
