Myburgh M1

Myburgh Microphones, previously Burg Microphones, has announced the availability of its first product, the M1. First previewed at Musikmesse in 2018, the Myburgh M1 is designed by Andreas Grosser, an engineer known for modding and restoring classic Neumann U47 mics, and Eckehard Dux, also a renowned mic engineer. Andrew Myburgh, producer and pro audio engineer, has been working in close collaboration with the two to bring the M1 to life.

The large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone will be showcased at the upcoming Winter NAMM 2020 and will be available for shipping this month. Myburgh M1 features a German-made Mylar M7 capsule and Russian military-grade tube. Placing a focus on durability, Myburgh says this mic’s body and mechanics are “built to last a lifetime”.

Featuring variable polar patterns and true cardioid, the M1’s frequency response has minimal cut off below 30Hz or over 20kHz and is “incredibly linear” according to the company. The M1’s unique sound comes from two custom-built transformers within the mic and power supply, combined with the German capsule and capsule basket design. The mic has the ability to withstand very high sound pressure and sports an incredibly low noise floor and high output.

The M1 is built entirely from scratch, taking a traditional German approach to high-end microphone manufacturing, without copying any existing mic designs.

“I truly feel the M1 is a special mic, sonically and aesthetically. Its design and development have been my life for the past 2.5 years so I’m very excited to tell you that our name has now changed from Burg to Myburgh”, Andrew Myburgh says of the mic.

Myburgh M1 will cost around $5,500. You can find out more information here. For more music tech news, click here.
