London’s Third Man Records will open on Marshall Street in Soho on 25 September 2021. Third Man’s favourite UK artists will release a set of exclusive records to celebrate the opening, along with some Motown contributions from Detroit – the location of Third Man’s original store.
Jack White has personally designed the new location, drawing inspiration from the hardships of 2020 and 2021. The label aims to “a physical space to help keep record sales and live performances alive after such a tough period for everyone”, following the hardships of 2020 and 2021.
There’s more to the location than just a record shop and performance venue, though, with some fun quirks that will make this a unique place for music lovers. Third Man Books will be running a Literarium, a lucky-dip book dispensing machine that will be the second of its kind in the world, and a retro token-operated recording booth. In the recording booth, you’ll have the ability to record your music directly onto vinyl.
Paul Weller, David Ruffin, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Cornershop, Gina Birch of The Raincoats and The Magic Roundabout are all either contributing new material for the opening. The releases will be available across all Third Man locations, as well as on its online store, upon the opening of the location. A limited-edition yellow vinyl copy of these releases will be available in the London Third Man Records store.
Third Man Records’ London location is the label ’s third physical location, with locations in Nashville, Tennessee, and Detroit, Michigan.
