Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has turned the nation’s capital of Kyiv into a battlefield, where innocent civilians, both Ukrainian citizens and foreigners, are paying the price.

At the time of writing, 406 civilian casualties have been reported [via CNN], as thousands are still trying to flee to neighbouring nations.

Shelling has been reported near Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital, Ukraine’s largest paediatric hospital, where child patients have been forced to relocate to the basement out of safety. Time reported yesterday (28 February) that 16 children have died since the invasion.

The Resident Advisor reports that ∄ club has been converted into a makeshift shelter. “It just happened. We didn’t organise it as a shelter. These people came to the club. It was their first port of call, maybe because they felt safe there,” a staff member told the publication.

“We have great infrastructure so we’re super lucky. We have showers, filtered drinking water, electricity and we organised mattresses, couches, beds.”
