The first DJ mix, of Apple’s One Mix series is an exclusive one-hour mix from Detroit techno pioneer Jeff Mills entitled Outer to Inner Atmosphere: The Escape Velocity Mix.

Speaking about the mix, Jeff Mills says: “The purpose of this recording was conceptualised and designed to stimulate the listeners’ three dimensional senses and sensations using the subject and idea of breaking Earth’s gravitational pull and leaving the planet. The embarkment to a place outside and unlike our own.”

“With this immersive sound experience also came certain aspects that needed to be addressed. Ones that uses our psychological responses, like anticipation and mystery, the risks and danger of such a journey and most importantly, the translation of the feeling that ‘a step forward’ has been taken.”

As well as launching exclusive DJ mixes, Apple Music has also teamed up with Boiler Room to debut 15 DJ Boiler Room sets, all newly mixed in Spatial Audio.

This includes sets from The Blessed Madonna, Boyz Noize, India Jordan, Ash Lauryn, HAAi and more.

More Boiler Room sets, re-recorded in Spatial Audio, will be added throughout the year. A Live From Boiler Room series will also launch later in 2022.

“Boiler Room is proud to collaborate with Apple Music on a series of DJ mixes recorded in surround and mixed in Spatial Audio,” said Terry Weerasinghe, Boiler Room’s chief operating officer. “Featuring a diverse roster of underground electronic artists, these mixes bring you closer to the club, creating an immersive sonic environment that surrounds you as if you were there.”

The announcement comes hot off the heels of the news that Apple’s rumoured classical music app might actually be arriving soon. The app is set to be a re-vamped version of Primephonic, a classical music streaming app described as the ‘Spotify for classical music fans’, which gained a cult following among fans of the genre. Apple Music acquired Primephonic in August 2021.

Apple Music also recently announced that they were uploading 200 of Boiler Room’s “most influential mixes”, with each mix being split into individual tracks, so royalties can be paid to all artists involved in each mix.

The exclusive Spatial Audio DJ mixes are available now for all Apple Music subscribers.
