Mixcloud rolls out live streaming feature for DJs, artists and content creators
Play out to your fans and friends – and get paid for it thanks to the platform’s unique licensing model.
Audio streaming platform, Mixcloud, has announced the launch of Mixcloud LIVE, a live streaming solution for music fans to tune into mixes, performances and shows. DJs, artists and other audio content creators can perform lengthy sets without limitations and engage directly with fans via a live chat.
The new feature has been integrated into the brand’s SELECT program, which allows creators to earn an income from their fans who support the channel for a small monthly contribution. SELECT users will soon be able to archive the audio from their live streams, meaning listeners can go back and relive the mix in their own time, with track names listed so other artists can get paid and discovered, too.
Mixcloud LIVE is described by the brand as a “swift and important response to the ongoing worldwide COVID-19 crisis”. Recently, Mixcloud waived its fees on SELECT for a limited time and extended the Mixcloud PRO trial period to 90 days for new joiners in the wake of the pandemic.
The platform has intentionally deviated from the tipping system found in other live streaming platforms. Mixcloud tells us “the Mixcloud SELECT program is built into LIVE from day one. Launched last year, the program enables creators to earn an income directly from their fans who support their channel for a small monthly contribution, and we believe this is a more sustainable model than tipping. We’re passionate about enabling more creators to earn an income this way, and pushing new models and new systems in response to COVID-19”

In addition, we are very focused on helping creators generate more income directly from their fans via their live streams”
The new live functionality is available now for all PRO members and works with all major streaming tools such as OBS and Wirecast. Audio streaming quality is 256kbps, and there is currently yet to be compatibility with restream.io.
